In Spring 2022, I redesigned The Wellness Room magazine for the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT), the leading professional association for complementary, beauty, and sports therapists.

The FHT set out three primary objectives for their redesign: modernising content publishing, transitioning the design into the Health and Wellbeing sector while upholding FHT’s core values, and improving accessibility and navigation.Guiding the FHT through an iterative process of research, ideation, and feedback, I crafted a design that precisely aligned with their vision. The magazine's layout was revamped to be more dynamic yet clean, shedding strict colour palettes and column structures for a more fluid, modern and vibrant approach.

In place of the previous large vector images used, I introduced elegant line drawings and natural, accurate imagery that represents the diversity and practices across the sector. Layouts are complemented by a balance of embellished and bold typography. Reflecting the FHT's audience preferences for a natural lifestyle, bright organic colour palettes were integrated throughout the design.

Emphasising community involvement, it was important to add design elements that put the readers at the forefront of the magazine. Member contributions were spotlighted prominently, with members' names and headshots being showcased at the top of features, and their bios at the end.

Lastly, I resized the magazine to a more compact 'handbag size' – 210mm w x 255mm h – facilitating easier transportation. This adjustment is invaluable for the members, who carry it to clinics, appointments, and share it with patients. Additionally, the new dimensions allowed for a spine and more pages to be added, giving the magazine a weightier and more refined feel.

The redesign garnered positive feedback from both the client and members, with significant engagement on social media channels about the design. It also received a nomination for Membership Magazine of the Year at the 2022 PPA Independent Publishers Awards due to its member-focused design and accessibility features.
Full PDFs of the magazine prior to and post redesign available on request. The magazine has now reverted back to its orignal name: International Therapist.

I also designed a microsite to accompany the magazine.
